Gary Bedore’s KU Basketball Notebook

Player updates

KU’s Sherron Collins (ankle sprain) and Travis Releford (skin irritation) may not play in today’s Bill Self camp game between current and former players.

Thomas Robinson, a freshman forward from Washington, D.C., and Jeff Withey, a frosh center who transferred from the University of Arizona, may be the only newcomers to play.

Non-scholarship player C.J. Henry has said he will not attend summer school, and instead will work out in his hometown of Oklahoma City. Elijah Johnson will report to campus after Saturday’s graduation ceremony at Las Vegas’ Cheyenne High.

Xavier Henry is slated to report this week, perhaps as early as today, maybe later.

“Xavier, he had his braces taken off (teeth), and he had to go back and get a retainer and some other things done, so he’s trying to tighten up all that before he gets here,” Self said. “Anyone that has worn them (braces) for a while, then the doctor says this is the day you get them off, I think you’re pretty excited about that day, so I don’t fault him at all for that.”

Little not being rushed

Self said Mario Little, who had surgery on April 16 to repair a stress fracture in his lower left leg, “could play today if he had to. He doesn’t have to, so in a couple more weeks, if rehab goes well, he’ll be able to run around like he did in junior college. We haven’t seen a healthy Mario since he got here.”
