Lawrence police arrested an 18-year-old Wichita man Tuesday for a number of burglaries and thefts in northwest Lawrence, police said.
Officers accuse the man of breaking into three homes and 12 cars, said Kim Murphree, Lawrence police spokeswoman. The suspect was arrested on three counts of aggravated burglary, 12 counts of burglary, 12 counts of theft and two counts of criminal damage.
Police found the man after being called about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday to a car burglary in the 5200 block of Eisenhower Terrace, near Sixth Street and Queens Road, Murphree said. Officers discovered multiple burglaries in the area.
“One officer located a suspect vehicle and, after an investigation, determined that the suspect was responsible for numerous crimes,” Murphree said.
About $3,000 in stolen property was recovered from the vehicle, police said.
The suspect was booked into Douglas County Jail at 9:19 a.m. Tuesday, according to jail records. The Journal-World does not typically name suspects unless they’ve been charged.
