Man arrested after Monday morning home invasion

Police arrested Monday morning a 31-year-old Colorado man on charges of aggravated burglary, theft totaling less than $1,000, obstruction of legal procedure and criminal trespassing.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Michael McLaren, police received a report of an aggravated burglary at 12:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of Monterey Way.

The suspect had entered a residence through an unlocked door and picked up the victim’s wallet. The victim confronted the suspect and was able to take back his wallet, but the suspect ran westbound into the residential area west of Monterey Way.

McLaren said police set up a perimeter to search for the suspect and found him in a backyard in the 3900 block of Monterey Court.

The man was arrested at 1:21 a.m.
