Police arrested Monday morning a 31-year-old Colorado man on charges of aggravated burglary, theft totaling less than $1,000, obstruction of legal procedure and criminal trespassing.
According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Michael McLaren, police received a report of an aggravated burglary at 12:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of Monterey Way.
The suspect had entered a residence through an unlocked door and picked up the victim's wallet. The victim confronted the suspect and was able to take back his wallet, but the suspect ran westbound into the residential area west of Monterey Way.
McLaren said police set up a perimeter to search for the suspect and found him in a backyard in the 3900 block of Monterey Court.
The man was arrested at 1:21 a.m.

What is going on in this town. Thefts are on the rise and criminals are becoming more desperate. Time to take inventory of serial numbers of your stuff folks (inside & outside stuff), and engrave your name and an ID number on it.

After reading this I got up to check my front door. Sometimes after I come it I don't lock it. Spooks me. But I live in a safe place so I really think the odds of something happening here are low.
I think people should be careful but I don't want someone beating themselves up because they are human. Sometimes we just get distracted by the events of our lives.
I can't help but think that the robber had prior information about this place before he ever went in.

Given the recent trouble at 821/Axis, two words stood out for me as well “Colorado man.”
“When police attempted to stop the car, the vehicle left the roadway near the intersection of 21st and Iowa streets. The driver, a 26-year-old Colorado man, was arrested at the scene.”

Who wants to make odds these two men are from the same city and know each other?

Sigmund, you just might be right. I would love to hear the backstory on this, but I doubt we will.

Maybe the door was left unlocked on purpose, maybe he was being lured inside. Eh?

maybe he was a homeless man who's embracing the comforts of Lawrence. It sounds like he read the paper and decided this would be a great place to spend some time stealing and sucking on the gov't tit.

I think it's a new trend where we will start seeing people from colorado committing more crimes… first the 821 shooting, now this… let's not ignore the fact that they're both from Colorado… definitely in cahoots…
