Law enforcement report

• Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical investigators are trying to determine the cause of an apparent arson early Thursday morning.

Fire officials were called to the 1600 block of Haskell Avenue at 2:51 a.m. Thursday to a car fire in an apartment complex parking lot. They found a 1987 Buick LeSabre on fire that belonged to a 24-year-old Lawrence woman who lived at the complex.

Nobody was injured in the incident. The car, valued at $1,500 according to police reports, was destroyed.

• An emergency helicopter was called Thursday evening to the scene of a one-vehicle accident in the 1900 block of East 175 Road — also known as County Road 1023 — north of U.S. Highway 40, just east of Big Springs.

The accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday.

Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Steve Lewis said the 24-year-old driver was heading north on East 175 Road when he lost control of his Honda Civic. The car left the road, struck a driveway and went airborne before rolling over, Lewis said. The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, was thrown from the vehicle, Lewis said.

The driver was taken by emergency helicopter to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka. The sheriff’s department did not release the driver’s name Thursday evening, pending notification of family members, but Lewis said the man is from the rural Lecompton area.

• A 40-year-old Lawrence man was booked into jail Thursday morning on charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Lawrence police arrested the man at his home in the 900 block of Rhode Island Street. He was also held on charges of violating a protective order. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects of sex crimes unless there is a conviction.
