Salvation Army employee seeks school board seat
The children’s ministries director for The Salvation Army in Lawrence is seeking a seat on the Lawrence school board.
Michael Riley, who has had three children graduate from Lawrence public schools, filed Tuesday morning before the deadline.
“I think you need a lot of diversity and variety in positions such as this, and I’m sure that I would be bringing a different point of view than most board members would,” Riley said.
He said he could be a conservative voice on the school board.
Riley, who has lived in Lawrence since 1982, also said no one particular issue spurred his decision to seek one of the three at-large seats. He has worked in his current position for three years.
“I think that it would be beneficial to have a wide variety of thoughts, points of view to share, and perhaps come to a different conclusion on issues that we face,” Riley said.
The election is April 7, and eight candidates have filed.
