A Lawrence police report indicates alcohol may be to blame for an accident early Saturday morning that sent a Kansas University student to a Kansas City hospital.

The police department’s accident report lists alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash that injured 19-year-old Matthew Batterson.

Police say Batterson was driving west on Bob Billings Parkway just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, when his pickup truck slid onto the median and hit a power pole.

According to the report, officers are still awaiting results of blood alcohol tests.

Batterson was taken by air ambulance to KU Hospital. As of Monday evening, Batterson’s condition was not available.
