Lawrence police have identified the Kansas University student who was hit by a car on Wednesday afternoon as Zachary Kastens, 21.

Kastens was hit while crossing the street, near the intersection of Crestline Drive and University Drive.

He was taken by helicopter ambulance to a Kansas City-area hospital with head injuries.

A police spokeswoman said Thursday that the man’s injuries were not life-threatening. Kastens was conscious and talking when the helicopter arrived, police said.

Officers identified the driver of the car as Kendra Butler, 18, a Washburn University freshman, of Topeka.

Information regarding the cause of the accident, as well as whether any citations were issued, were not available from police on Thursday morning.
