Prosecutors filed a charge of child rape against a 21-year-old Lawrence man on Monday, according to Douglas County District Court records.

Lawrence police said the case involves an 11-year-old girl and that the suspect is known to her family.

“The incident occurred on Feb. 6 at the victim’s residence in North Lawrence,” said Kim Murphree, police spokeswoman.

The suspect was arrested Friday night at the Lawrence Police Department Investigation and Training Center, 4820 Bob Billings Parkway, Douglas County Jail records indicate. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

The man had his first court appearance Monday and is scheduled to return to court Wednesday in front of Judge Michael Malone, court records said.
