KU posts spam alert

Kansas University’s Information Technology department is alerting KU e-mail users of potential spam from the Web site campusbuddy.com.

In an alert distributed on its Web site, the department said that the founders of Campus Buddy are also behind a large number of “Class of 20XX” groups on Facebook.

The Campus Buddy Web site, according to the alert, requests anonymized grading information from public universities to see which professors grade out as the “easiest.”

In the alert, the department leaves the decision to use Campus Buddy up to students, but encourages students not to respond to the e-mail messages, or click the “unsubscribe” link.

It asks that anyone receiving spam to forward it to abuse@ku.edu as an attachment.
