Law Enforcement report

• A 33-year-old Topeka man was arrested Sunday morning on charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property. Lawrence police officers arrested him in the 1900 block of West Third Terrace in North Lawrence.

• Douglas County Sheriff’s officers arrested a 47-year-old Lawrence man Sunday evening on two charges of theft and one charge of residential burglary. The man was arrested near 1200 E. 1300 Road at 6:34 p.m. Sunday.

Fire calls

• Reno Township fire crews responded to a fire in a vacant greenhouse just after 5 p.m. Sunday. Lawrence Torneden, fire chief for Reno Township in Leavenworth County, said the fire was easy to extinguish. “It was vacant, but they hadn’t disconnected the electricity from it yet. It’s suspected it was probably electrical,” Torneden said. Nobody was injured.

• Rubbish fire, 6:20 p.m. Sunday, 1055 E. 1650 Road

• Hay bale fire, 6:15 p.m. Sunday, 1330 E. 2350 Road

• Fire crews from multiple agencies responded to a grass fire at 2:25 p.m. Saturday afternoon on the Jefferson-Leavenworth county line. Reno Township Fire Chief Lawrence Torneden said that the fire was confined to grassland. About 300 acres of land were damaged in the fire, which broke out near the intersection of Wild Horse Road and Snake Farm Road. “We headed it off before it got to any structure,” Torneden said, “but it required extensive manpower.”

The fire was started by an unpermitted burn. Many counties in northeast Kansas, including Leavenworth, Douglas and Shawnee, are under burn bans because of dry conditions.
