A 42-year-old man was ordered to spend about six years in prison for two sex crimes.

Guy Drum was sentenced Jan. 8 by Douglas County District Judge Paula Martin.

Drum pleaded no contest in November to aggravated indecent liberties with a child and attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The offenses occurred in July 2007, prosecutors said.

Martin sentenced Drum to 71 months in prison for the crimes. He was ordered to register as a sex offender when he’s released, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Charles Branson said.

There is an online site that gives pictures, names, and addresses of Lawrence sex offenders. It would have been nice if this article provided that info. Especially if they have children, Lawrence residents should be aware of what offenders look like and where they live, I think.

spanky-The guy's in jail. What good would his address do?Jonathan KealingOnline editor

Apparently Kealing, you forget that on the access kansas site they do have sex offenders whose addresses merely state a correctional facility that they are currently located in. Of course it can be assumed these offenders are repeats possibly but figured someone with some journalistic know how would have researched a bit before responding in an uppity fashion to this readers general statement about sex offender awareness in our neighborhoods and community as a whole. I can understand defending your writing but retract the claws, awareness of this sort is always needed and welcomed, sometimes reminders are ok.

Hawkman-Not sure what you're talking about. The question asked for the guy's address, which doesn't seem relevant because he's in jail. Sorry if I misunderstood and if you were offended by my reply.Jonathan KealingOnline editor

Johnathan, I think the main thought was the LJ-W could (should) have provided a link to the sex offenders address site so those of us who don't have it - or don't do well with Inet searches could have gone there directly. I'd also suggest the link(s) open new tabs or windows so we don't have to worry about back, back, back......

Family Watchdog is a great site for looking up offenders in neighborhoods.http://www.familywatchdog.us/Search.aspPlug in the city/state, there's a legend on the left hand screen of the map, click the colored square and receive a picture along with an address of offender in question. Pretty disturbing to find out who the folks really are that are living in your neighborhood.

Yeah... I remember the day my next door neighbor came over and told me that the dude across the street was on the registry. My next door neighbor's girlfriend was nearly a "live in" situation, and I have a family. So, I went over and talked to his adult son, to get the scoop on what the old guy did. I was fully prepared to give the "if you try something over here, I'll kill you" speech, but it wasn't necessary.

You won't find him on the KBI's online registered offender list until he gets out in 5 to 6 years and registers, assuming he stays in Kansas. In the meantime, after he gets through RDU in El Dorado, you can check his smiling mug out on the DOC's KASPER page:http://www.dc.state.ks.us/kasper

He is from Baldwin...I would have never seen this one coming...I have known the family for years. So sorry to hear this.

  10. littlegrace (anonymous) says…

You didn't see it coming? As an adult he habitually dated teen girls. Baldwinians tickle me with their heads in the sand.

  11. julz (anonymous) says…

You might be surprised to find out who is living in your neighborhood - just enter your zip or city:http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi/offender_registry/

  12. jonas_opines (anonymous) says…

Be afraid, the registry only covers those that have actually gotten caught.

  13. townie_girl (anonymous) says…

littlegrace--maybe you should get your story straight, as an adult he didn't habitually date teen girls. You should probably know a little more before you post that Baldwinians have their head in the sand. There is a justifiable reason to never have seen this one coming.

Welcome to the LJWorld comment section townie_girl. You'll come to realize that people don't often have a clue about the article, or about anything for that matter before they comment. Hell it's amazing this article hasn't deterioratied into a political "discussion" (I use that label VERY generously) with both groups blabbing back and forth with their fingers in each others faces.

"I would have never seen this one coming…I have known the family for years. So sorry to hear this."And that is often the case. Men who do these things are masters at concealment and isolation. People who "knew him" didn't really know him. It's nearly impossible for a man to reveal such urges, which is the path to getting help, so they slip-slide into bad choices and bad behaviors... the next thing you know they are on the news.
