LHS girls turn up ‘D,’ hold off Helias, 41-35

December 11, 2009

— Haley Parker scored 13 points and the Lawrence High girls basketball team turned up the defensive pressure in a 41-35 victory over Jefferson City (Mo.) Helias on Thursday in the first round of the Saints Classic.

The Lions will face Overland Park Aquinas at 6:30 p.m. today in the semifinals.

“We challenged them at halftime to turn up the defensive pressure and it ended up being the difference in the game,” LHS coach Nick Wood said. “We told them, guard them like you don’t want to be guarded.”

Tamiya Green added six points for Lawrence, while Cassie Potter and Jasmyn Turner pitched in five apiece. The Lions improved to 1-1.

So the LHS boys game was covered, the FSHS girls and boys game was covered, and even the Eudora game has pics. And the KU women played. No pics or video for the LHS girls. maybe someone coud show up tonight since they won.

BTW, at one point, the LHS girls spread their lead to 10 and I want to say it was in the 4th quarter, with at least 4 different Lions scoring during that run.
