Police called after armed robbery at adult novelty store

Police were investigating an armed robbery Thursday night at an adult novelty store in Lawrence.

Officers were called to Cirilla’s, 1206 W. 23rd St., around 6 p.m. Thursday, after a man robbed a female clerk at gunpoint.

Lawrence Police Capt. Ray Urbanek said the suspect walked up to the clerk, came around the counter, showed a silver handgun and demanded cash.

The woman gave the man an unknown amount of money from the register, as well as some cash from a box.

Urbanek said the man then fled out of a side door on foot.

Officers were working to track footprints in the snow Thursday night.

They were also reviewing surveillance video from inside the store.

Urbanek said the suspect — a black male — was wearing a hooded jacket, gloves and had most of his face covered.
