Kansas University offensive coordinator Ed Warinner interviewed Monday for the head coaching job at the University of Akron, a source with knowledge of the situation told the Journal-World.

Warinner began his career at Akron in 1984, when he served one season as the running backs coach before moving to Michigan State under George Perles. He served two seasons there before moving on to Army, Air Force and Illinois.

In the past three seasons under Warinner, the Kansas offense thrived, finishing the 2009 season ranked seventh in the NCAA in passing offense (310.3 yards per game) and 25th in total offense (422.42).

With Warinner, KU has produced its top three passing and top three total offense seasons in school history.

Warinner, who just completed his fifth overall season at Kansas, was not named one of the three interim coaches following the departure of Mark Mangino, who resigned last week amid an investigation into his treatment of players.

The guy was never anything but nice to me. I'm glad he's taking his shot before he gets the "lifelong assistant" tag.

All the best, Coach!
