Fire and Medical crews responded Monday morning to a two-alarm fire in northern Lawrence.
No one was injured in the fire, which was under control within one hour of the dispatch call. One home sustained extensive damage. No surrounding structures were damaged.
According to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Division Chief Shaun Coffey, crews responded at 4:28 a.m. to a report of a fully engulfed structure at the Mobile Village II mobile home park, 110 N. Michigan St. Crews arrived on scene at 4:35 a.m.
The resident of the home had already escaped the burning building by the time fire crews arrived. The structure was near the west end of the mobile home park.
A cause and damage estimate were not made available later Monday.
The Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross provided assistance to the man who lived in the mobile home.

I just wonder how much longer it takes a fire truck to navigate thru the mess that is taking place in north lawrence. Good thing there wasnt a train or they could have been held up another 10min (long time to watch your house burn)! Glad to hear nobody was hurt!!!

bigmike: i do not think North Michigan Street is in North Lawrence as your blog would indicate. The last time I drove it it was is was in Northern Lawrence but on the South side of the Kaw.

you're both wrong; First of all, bigmike made a comment, not a blog. Second of all, Mike's comment suggested that North Michigan Street was in North Lawrence. If North Michigan Street was in North Lawrence, then Matthew Jaeger's story about going to the hospital might have held up.

I live in the trailer park across the street for this one. No, we are definately not in North Lawrence, north of 6th St, north and west of the hospital. I know one rescue unit came from 19th and Iowa...at that time of the day I started hearing them at about 9th and Iowa. Not sure where the 2nd unit came from. In a trailer, fire just like storms, you get out! I am glad the resident made it to safety and my best wishes and prayers for you in finding housing.

Why do trailer houses still burn so quickly? Can't they put more fire retardent materials in those suckers?
