Sex crime report found to be false
Lawrence police determined Friday that a woman’s allegations that two men broke into her home on Thursday were unfounded.
In a statement released Friday evening, Sgt. Michael Monroe said “the investigation has determined no crime has been committed.”
The woman, a 24-year-old Kansas University student, had reported to police that about 11 a.m. Thursday, two men followed her from campus, broke into her home in the 2400 block of University Drive and sexually battered her before fleeing. Among details the woman provided to police was the men had “Kansas accents.”
“There is no reason for the public to be concerned about anyone described in this incident,” Monroe said. “The public is reminded to please take normal precautions with your personal safety and to always be vigilant.”
