First-degree murder charges filed in death of 50-year-old Oskaloosa man

Jefferson County Attorney Caleb Stegall announced Monday afternoon that first-degree murder charges were filed against a 36-year-old man.

Adam Hooper was charged in the Sunday morning murder of a 50-year-old Oskaloosa man. The man, Dale Kingsbury, had a disability that prohibited him from running his farm the way he wanted and was letting Hooper stay at his residence as long as he helped out, a family friend said.

Kingsbury and his wife had lived on the Jefferson County farm for the past 15 years.

Charges were read and explained during Hooper’s first court appearance Monday afternoon. Bond has been set at $500,000 and a preliminary hearing for the case has been set for Aug. 18.
