19-year-old Topeka man arrested after foot chase ends with tazing

A 19-year-old Topeka man was arrested early Sunday after a chase on foot ended with a taser being used in the 3000 block of Sixth Street.

Lawrence police pulled the young man’s vehicle over Sunday morning for a drug investigation. Police had the suspect sitting on the curb while they searched the vehicle. Police said the suspect then got up and took off running from the area about 1:13 a.m., discarding a bag of drugs as he fled.

Police chased the man on foot down Sixth Street, toward Dillons, where the suspect attempted to jump a fence. He was tazed by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper and taken into custody.

The suspect was arrested on charges of driving without a license, obstructing legal procedure, and numerous drug violations including possession, intent to distribute and not possessing a tax stamp. The man was booked at 1:14 a.m.
