Man treated for non-life-threatening injuries after being shot with pellet gun

A 33-year-old man was treated for a non-life-threatening injury he sustained after being shot by a pellet gun early Thursday morning in the 1800 block of W. 24th street.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl, the man was walking by himself on the sidewalk when a white Toyota four-door vehicle pulled up next to him. The occupants of the vehicle, two black males believed to be in their 30s, demanded money from the man. When he responded that he didn’t have money, one of the occupants shot him with a pellet gun. The vehicle then fled the scene.

The pellet hit the man in the right index finger, an injury police treated him for at a gas station nearby.

Police responded to the original call that someone had been shot about 12:07 a.m. Thursday.

No suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident.

Sgt. Hadl asks anyone with information related to the incident to call the police department’s TIPS Hotline at 843-TIPS (8477).
