Prosecutors charged a 48-year-old Lawrence man Monday with attempted rape and three counts of criminal threat, according to Douglas County Court records.

The suspect was arrested for “allegedly attempting to rape a 43-year-old woman at her home after battering her,” said Kim Murphree, Lawrence police spokeswoman. The suspect and victim are known to each other, Murphree said.

Police said the man also allegedly threatened a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, who called police to the scene.

The man was arrested Sunday in the 200 block of Glenview Drive and is being held in Douglas County Jail on $35,000 bond, according to records. It is Journal-World policy not to name suspects in sex crimes unless they are convicted.

The suspect is scheduled to return to court next Tuesday for an appearance in front of District Judge Robert Fairchild.

If I'm reading the online record correctly, he's now out on bail.

If he is out on bail, it would be nice to know if the attack was random or if he knew the victim. Praise to the police for making an arrest!

I know this guy, quite frankly this surprised the heck out of me. He was always very polite and respectful, but that was in a workplace environment. I'm not blaming alcohol, just wonder if it was involved.

we live two doors down. From what we heard it sounds like they know eachother. I am assuming this just from what he was yelling after the cops chased (and QUICKLY caught) him up the street.
