Songs go on sale to benefit Annika

Annika Knudson, a student at Raintree Montessori School, swings in the school's courtyard.

The CD tribute to a local girl battling lymphoma is now available for sale.

Students at Raintree Montessori School — Shannon Tichenor, Erin Scherl and Jayke Workman — wrote the song “Soldier without Armor” and recorded it at a local studio. The song was intended to encourage their classmate, 11-year-old Annika Knudson, and raise money for her expensive cancer battle.

The students were featured in a March 22 story in the Journal-World.

A Web site, www.songforannika.org, has been created to sell the CD, which also includes the song “I’m Here,” written and performed by the students. It includes options to purchase the CD for $15 or to donate additional money to the Knudson family.

Annika has returned to Raintree following two chemotherapy treatments. A CT scan taken last week was inconclusive on whether the treatments eliminated all of the cancer, so another scan was scheduled for late May.
