LHS soccer team loses to SM Northwest

? The Lawrence High boys soccer team held tough against No. 2 Shawnee Mission Northwest on Tuesday night, but couldn’t overcome an early deficit, falling 2-0 to drop to 2-5 overall this season (0-3 in the Sunflower League).

Shawnee-Mission Northwest (7-1) opened the scoring in the 16th minute, but then was held scoreless until the game’s final four minutes.

Afterward, Lawrence High coach Matt Anderson praised the play of his alternating goalies, seniors Sean Simmons and Sam Wessels, as well as the progress he has seen from his team as a whole.

“We’re just trying to be the best team we can be by the end of the season so we can be an incredibly tough out by the time regionals gets here.” Anderson said.

The Lions next play Thursday, when they travel to Shawnee-Mission West for a

7 p.m. game.
