Lawrence resident sentenced to 20 years for Ottawa shooting

A Lawrence man was sentenced last week to serve 20 years in prison for his role in a 2006 Ottawa shooting.

Jeffrey A. Campbell, 31, was the fourth person sentenced to prison time for a plot to shoot Michael Miller the night before Miller was to testify in a Douglas County aggravated battery and burglary case.

District Judge Thomas Sachse on Monday gave Campbell the 20-year sentence after he pleaded no contest in August to attempted first-degree murder.

Four Lawrence residents were convicted in what prosecutors have said was a plot to stop Miller from testifying in a trial against Louis Galloway in December 2006.

Miller survived the shooting, and later testified against Galloway, 45, of Lawrence. Galloway, who was convicted in 2007 for breaking into Miller’s Lawrence apartment and assaulting him, was never charged in the Ottawa shooting. He’s serving 12 years for the break-in case.

In the shooting, Kay Galliard-Taylor was convicted of attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy charges in 2007, and she’s serving 12 years. Lisa Winter and Lee Roy House accepted plea agreements earlier. House is serving a three years, and Winter has a five-year sentence.
