Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police arrested a 37-year-old Lawrence man Monday after he allegedly assaulted a 40-year-old Lawrence woman with a steel pipe approximately 3 feet long. The incident occurred at 8:40 p.m. at the victim’s residence, in the 600 block of Connecticut Street. The victim was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The suspect and victim are neighbors.

¢ Lawrence police arrested a 24-year-old Eudora man on charges of aggravated battery after he allegedly threw drain cleaner in the eyes of a 33-year-old Haskell Indian Nations University student. According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Richard Nickell, the student was trying to encourage homeless people in Watson Park to move to the local homeless shelter at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. He encountered the suspect, who threw drain cleaner into his face, causing possible injury to his eyes. The victim was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. No update on his condition was available.

Injury accident

A 50-year-old Lee’s Summit, Mo., man suffered injuries in a motor vehicle accident Tuesday evening. Warren L. Hickman was driving eastbound on Kansas Highway 10, near the Interstate 435 interchange, when he swerved to avoid another vehicle and crashed his 1997 Mercedes-Benz sedan into a bridge pillar at mile marker 29.8. Hickman was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., where he was in good condition Tuesday night. A nursing supervisor could not confirm whether Hickman was still at the hospital or if he was released earlier.
