Fraternity members prepare to run to raise money in fight against leukemia

Members of Phi Gamma Delta from Kansas University and Kansas State University will put their rivalry aside Friday in honor of a member who died of leukemia in 1974.

The chapters have raised more than $20,000 during the past month for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. On Friday, members will carry Saturday’s game ball approximately 70 miles from Manhattan to Memorial Stadium. They are scheduled to leave Manhattan at 8 a.m. and arrive in Lawrence about 4:30 p.m.

During the past 35 years, the fraternities have raised more than $600,000 in memory of Rod Morgan, who lost his battle with the disease while attending K-State. Morgan became sick during his senior year at age 21.

Every year, the Morgan family attends the KU versus K-State football game in memory of their son and to acknowledge the fraternity members’ efforts. A check presentation will be made during the game, which begins at 11:30 a.m.
