David Adkins, vice chancellor for external affairs for the Kansas University Medical Center, will be leaving the university.

He has taken another position as the executive director of the Council of State Governments, based in Lexington, Ky.

The council is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization serving all three branches of state government. Adkins is scheduled to start the new position on Nov. 3.

Adkins is a former member of the Kansas House of Representatives and the Kansas Senate who also ran for Kansas Attorney General.
