On the record
Douglas County District Court
Jurors are scheduled to resume deliberations at 8:30 a.m. today in the case of a Lawrence man accused of trying to sexually abuse his girlfriend’s 8-year-old daughter.
Both sides made closing arguments Wednesday afternoon before turning the case over to the jury around 3 p.m. Jurors recessed at 6:30 p.m.
The 45-year-old man was charged with attempted aggravated criminal sodomy, criminal restraint and two counts of domestic battery.
The charges stem from an incident in February in which the man is accused of pushing his girlfriend’s 8-year-old daughter into the shower, holding her against her will and attempting to sodomize her.
He’s also accused of battering his girlfriend during the incident.
The trial started Tuesday.
