Law Enforcement Report

¢ Lawrence Police are investigating four sex crimes in different areas of the city involving women who report they were illegally touched.

A 19-year-old Lawrence woman said she was touched by a man Oct. 1 while trying on clothing at a downtown Lawrence clothing store. The victim said the man illegally touched her when she came out of a dressing room to look at clothes in a mirror, a police report said.

A 24-year-old Lawrence woman told police that a 21-year-old male acquaintance touched her sometime before 5 a.m. on Oct. 4 at a friend’s apartment north of Sixth Street, the police report said. Police said they forwarded this sexual battery case to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.

A 22-year-old Lawrence woman reported she was illegally touched by a 28-year-old male acquaintance about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at a west Lawrence home. This case was also forwarded to the district attorney’s office, which said the case was under review.

Investigators said they’re also looking into a report that a 19-year-old Manhattan woman was illegally touched by a 21-year-old male acquaintance between Nov. 30, 2007, and March 1, 2008, after a party in south central Lawrence. The woman reported the incident to Lawrence police Oct. 5.

¢ A 42-year-old Lawrence man reported the theft of a 1986 Chevy Blazer from the 1500 block of Kentucky Street. The vehicle, valued at $1,500, was stolen overnight Sunday.

¢ A 25-year-old Lawrence man reported $2,000 in criminal damage to a 2007 Kawasaki Mean Streak motorcycle. The gas tank was damaged. The incident occurred between 2:45 a.m. and 2:50 a.m. Monday on the 900 block of Iowa Street.

¢ A rumor of a bomb threat Monday at Lawrence High was a false alarm, according to Julie Boyle, the Lawrence school district’s communications director. She said school resource officers and LHS staff investigated the rumor and determined it to be false. Nothing suspicious was found during a search of the building.

¢ Smoke detector activation due to malfunction, 3:18 a.m. Tuesday, 1008 Tenn.

¢ Smoke detector activation due to malfunction, 3:59 a.m. Tuesday, 1800 Engel Road.

¢ Motor vehicle accident, 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, 23rd Street and Barker Avenue.
