KU student arrested on charges of aggravated burglary

Police say that a 22-year-old KU student from Peru was arrested early Thursday morning after residents on the 1700 block of Tennessee Street reported that he broke into their garage.

The man, who was described as a white male wearing a navy blue shirt with wavy black hair, was arrested at 19th and Tennessee Streets at about 1:50 this morning, Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said.

Residents of the house told police that they were alerted by a noise at about 1 a.m. They said they approached the suspect, who exited through the garage upon confrontation.

The residents reported that the man had bloodied his right hand a bit when breaking into the garage. Sure enough, when police found the man two blocks away, they reported him having blood on his hand, pants and face. Hadl said the victim was able to identify the suspect.

No stolen items were reported, but police noted criminal damage to the garage in the incident.
