Commission OKs easement change

Douglas County Commission on Wednesday evening agreed to vacate part of a utility easement for a property owner at Clinton Lake Estates west of Lawrence.

Owners Harlin and Bonnie Redding are trying to sell the property, and they recently discovered a shed encroached on a portion of the easement that was 15 feet wide. Commissioners agreed to narrow the easement to be 10 feet wide for a portion of the property. The utility companies had no objection.

Commissioners also agreed to designate portions of four roads in Marion Township as minimum maintenance because the roads have low traffic volumes. The designation reduces liability.

The commission also appointed Bill Fleming, an attorney for Treanor Architects, to serve on the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority’s board.
