Man faces four charges of animal cruelty
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 27-year-old Lawrence man Tuesday night on four charges of animal cruelty.
Peter Dewey Yellowbird was taken into custody on a warrant at the Douglas County Jail, 3601 E. 25th St., jail records said.
Prosecutors said Yellowbird faces four charges of having physical custody of an animal and intentionally failing to provide food, water, protection from the elements, opportunity for exercise or other care needed for the health or well-being of the animal, as defined by state statute.
The suspect was released on $5,000 bond soon after his arrest, jail records said. Cheryl Wright, a spokeswoman for district attorney Charles Branson, said Yellowbird will appear in court at 3 p.m. Nov. 25.
