County commissioners to consider allowing Stony Point Hall reception center to have more events

Douglas County commissioners Wednesday night will consider revising a conditional-use permit for a reception center near Baldwin City to allow it have more than two events per week.

Russell and Lucretia Carlson, property owners of 1514 N. 600 Road, home to Stony Point Hall for weddings and other receptions, have asked for the permit to now let them have an unlimited number of events per week.

Commissioners originally approved a permit in 2006 with the limitation. Several neighbors and area businesses have written letters to commissioners supporting lifting the restriction, saying the Carlsons have been cooperative.

Commissioner Bob Johnson was supportive of the move when he mentioned it on Monday, but he asked the health department to make sure the septic system could handle more events there.

The meeting begins at 6:35 p.m. in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
