Officer Kim Springer said Monday morning that police have yet to determine how the accident occurred. She said Chian’s vehicle “hit multiple items, including a woodpile and tree.” She said investigators are trying to determine the path and speed of the vehicle by skid marks left at the scene.

“All of that is still under investigation,” Springer said.

The accident occurred at 4:36 p.m. near Midland Railway depot in west Baldwin. Springer said she didn’t know what hospital Chian was taken to or what her condition is.

The 2002 Harley Davidson the motorcyclist was driving was hit by a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck at 9:35 p.m. Saturday in the eastbound lane of Interstate 70, at milepost 204 just east of the interchange.

Barclay Mead, 39, the motorcycle driver, was flown by air ambulance to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka, the KTA said. On Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said he had been discharged.
