One charge dropped in domestic case

Douglas County District Judge Pro Tem Jim George on Monday dismissed one aggravated assault charge against a 20-year-old man arrested at his Baldwin City home after a domestic disturbance call, officials said. Two other charges were allowed to stand.

Baldwin City police arrested Joshua Jeffcoat early Saturday morning. A police spokeswoman didn’t release details of the incident.

Prosecutors charged Jeffcoat with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of domestic battery, although George didn’t find probable cause for one of the aggravated assault counts during a court appearance Monday afternoon, a Douglas County district attorney spokeswoman said.

Jeffcoat is not allowed to return to his home, according to jail records, and he is being held in Douglas County Jail on $3,000 bond.

He’s scheduled for an appearance in district court at 2 p.m. Wednesday, prosecutors said.
