Motorcyclist released from hospital following weekend accident on I-70

A motorcyclist was injured this weekend after entering Interstate 70 at the East Lawrence Kansas Turnpike Authority interchange and swerving into the far left lane in front of a pickup truck, a KTA accident report states.

The 2002 Harley Davidson the motorcyclist was driving was hit by a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck at 9:35 p.m. Saturday in the eastbound lane of Interstate 70, at milepost 204, just east of the interchange.

Barclay Mead, 39, the motorcycle driver, was flown by air ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, the KTA said. On Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said the Topeka man had been discharged.

Steven Riemer, the 51-year-old pickup truck driver, was not injured, according to the accident report. The Shawnee man was wearing a seat belt.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday, a 22-year-old South Fork, Penn., woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident on the Kansas Turnpike east of Lawrence at milepost 207. Jessica L. Ramus attempted to make an avoiding maneuver when the vehicle she was driving lost control and struck the concrete median barrier wall, an accident report said.
