A 36-year-old Lawrence woman told police she was battered and raped in the 2500 block of Moundview Drive early Sunday morning.

The victim told police she was part of a group attempting to mitigate a disagreement in the 800 block of Schwarz Road early Sunday. She said she left the group and tried to find a place to call a cab. Then she was walking along Moundview Drive between 3:40 a.m. and 4 a.m. when she heard someone running behind her, the report said.

A man called out that he wanted to help her, but she declined and kept walking, the victim told police. The suspect ran to her and knocked her down, the report said. The victim reported she was hit and sexually assaulted by the man, the report said. The victim struggled away from the suspect and flagged down a vehicle, which transported her to the hospital. Police recovered clothing from the scene in the 2500 block of Moundview.

The suspect is described as a white male, between ages 25 and 35, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 with a slender build and light-colored hair, last seen wearing a T-shirt and jeans. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department Investigations Division at 830-7430.
