Last Call shooter to register for life
When Carlos Jackson is released from prison for shooting and wounding three people, he will have to register with the state as an offender for the rest of his life.
That was the decision Friday by Douglas County District Court Judge Paula Martin.
Last month Martin sentenced Jackson, 26, of Topeka, to 15 years in prison for the shooting that occurred Feb. 10 outside the now-closed Last Call nightclub, 729 N.H.
In a hearing April 24, Martin ruled that Jackson will have to register as an offender for 10 years following his release from prison because he committed a felony with a gun.
Martin now has ruled that the court has extended jurisdiction to increase the registration to life because Jackson was previously convicted of felony murder in Shawnee County. He was 17 then.
