Charge filed in fatal shooting

? Prosecutors have filed an involuntary manslaughter charge against a 32-year-old Emporia man, one week after a fatal shooting outside a home.

The Lyon County Attorney’s office said Friday the charge was filed against Ferman Hernandez in the death of 50-year-old Alfonso Barajas. Authorities say the two were at a gathering outside an Emporia home around 8 p.m. March 21.

Hernandez allegedly fired a rifle at a bird, but Barajas stood up in the line of fire and a bullet hit him in the forehead.

Hernandez’s first court appearance is set for Tuesday.
