Law enforcement report

¢ A Monday afternoon fire that destroyed a rural Lecompton home started when spilled paint thinner ignited a furnace, Lecompton Fire/EMS Chief Wayne Riley said Tuesday.

Riley said the estimated loss by the fire at 1956 E. 100 Road was more than $100,000 for the home and about $2,500 for contents.

He said the owner did not live in the home but was planning to move in soon. The owner was cleaning the floor and knocked over paint thinner near a furnace, Riley said. The spill and fumes ignited the fire, which spread quickly through the one-story structure, he said.
