Condition update

¢ The five-year-old Linwood area girl shot last month while playing in her yard is expected to be moved out of intensive care Monday, according to hot line recordings that update her condition.

Katherine Cook is at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. According to the hot line, doctors have removed Katherine’s catheter, a central line and arterial line, which was used to monitor her blood pressure. She has been placed on a gastric feeding tube. She has opened her eyes briefly several times and her movements indicate she is in a “higher level coma,” the recording said. She is expected to be moved to the rehabilitation floor on Monday.

Katherine was shot Feb. 23 by an unknown gunman. The incident is under investigation.
