Lawrence High girls win state

Lawrence High School's Tania Jackson, center, shouts for joy Saturday with her teammates and fans after the LHS Lions narrowly defeated Goddard High School 54-52 in the Class 6A State Championship in Emporia. LHS finished the season 21-4. The LHS boys team was less fortunate and lost its championship game to Wichita Southeast, 88-67. The boys finished the season with a 13-12 record.

? Lawrence High’s girls basketball team won its first state title in 16 years, toppling Goddard, 54-52, Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Haley Parker took the ball in the lane and banked in the game-winning shot with 4.5 seconds left, lifting the Lions to the 6A championship.

LHS finished the season 21-4.
