A 23-year-old Lawrence man is in Wyandotte County Jail facing felony charges following a high-speed chase Sunday that began in Douglas County, said Lt. Dave Porter of the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The chase began in Douglas County and continued eastbound on Kansas Highway 32 into the Kansas City metropolitan area west of Bonner Springs, Porter said. The man drove in excess of 100 mph during the chase.
The Kansas Highway Patrol took over the chase in Bonner Springs at the request of Lawrence police, Porter said. He said the officers originally following the man drove out of the range of their radios.
The chase continued into a western Kansas City, Kan., residential area where it ended after authorities set up spikes in the road. A weapon was recovered from the vehicle, Porter said.
The Highway Patrol would not release the man's name until he has been charged, which is expected to occur today, Porter said.
