Burglaries, thefts reported

¢ A 19-year-old Lawrence man was arrested around 10 p.m. Sunday after brandishing what appeared to be a real gun to another person in the vicinity of a Laundromat near 23rd and Iowa streets, police said. Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said three males and a female ranging in age from 16 to 19 were goofing around at Conoco Breakplace, 2330 Iowa. The 19-year-old separated from the group and met up with another person nearby where the two exchanged words, Hubbel said. The 19-year-old lifted up his shirt to reveal the gun and made statements that led the other man to believe the gun was real. Police arrived at the scene, which had moved to 25th and Iowa streets, where the 19-year-old was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, Hubbel said.

¢ Lawrence police responded to reports of an armed robbery at Dangermond Retail Liquor, 1010 N. Third St., about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the store’s owner, Tom Dangermond, the clerk working at the register gave the man all of the cash from the till. Dangermond said the man then fled the scene and the clerk chased him on foot and in a vehicle. Dangermond said police arrived and searched for the man in an area east of the Conoco station at 1030 N. Third St.

Injury accident

¢ Two men were transported to the hospital early Sunday following an a single-vehicle accident on the Kansas Turnpike near milepost 209. Tamario De Andre, 22, of Lawrence, was driving a 1997 Dodge minivan westbound when he fell asleep, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report. The vehicle went off the road and hit a tree. Passengers Marty Lopez, 34, of La Quinta, Calif., and Matthew S. Palmer, 27, of Lawrence, were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Palmer was later treated and released, and Lopez was transported to a Kansas City area hospital.
