Police seek suspect in liquor store case

Lawrence police officers are seeking a suspect in a possible robbery of Dangermond Retail Liquor, 1010 N. Third St., shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect fled on foot behind the Presto Convenience Store near the Kansas Turnpike. Officers were calling in a K-9 unit that had been on duty at Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival. It is unknown if the attempted robbery was successful.

Danny Copp, a Westar Energy employee, was walking into Presto Convenience Store when he saw the suspect running on foot through the store parking lot. He also said he saw a man in a Subaru speed from Dangermond to the convenience store driving after the suspect.

“I saw a guy take off running toward the hotel,” Copp said. “The next thing you know you see all these cop cars driving by.”
