KU men’s basketball team to play New Mexico State

July 30, 2008

Kansas University's men's basketball team has filled its final date on its 2008-09 nonconference schedule with New Mexico State.

The Aggies of the Western Athletic Conference, will meet KU on Dec. 3 in Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks will not return the game.

New Mexico State, coached by Marvin Menzies, returns no seniors and just one junior off last year's 21-14 team.

"I was out and about on the recruiting trail and I had an opportunity to visit with several coaches. I talked with some assistant coaches at Kansas and then we talked a few times on the phone," Menzies told the Las Cruces Sun-News in explaining the matchup.

"We made some adjustments on our schedule and the next thing I knew, it was done. We were looking for one more high major to play to give us more depth in our non-conference schedule and the hunt for RPI and give our guys some big time games that will help us get ready for conference."

In order to get the Dec. 3 game at Kansas, the Aggies, according to the Sun-News, shifted their home game against New Mexico and moved a home game against Loyola Marymount from Dec. 30 to Dec. 28.

The CBE Classic has an opponent for KU, but has not yet revealed the foe for a first or second-round tourney game either Nov. 16 or 18. It has been revealed KU will play UMKC in one of the tourney contests in Allen.

KU doesn't get to decide what channel games get broadcast on...

Nor is the rest of the country required to get cable from a monopoly like Sunflower broadband, if you don't have a cable box your gonna miss quite a few games.

Four games on the "U". You guys ought to be shot for that. I hate it that you try to force people to spend money on a marginal network like that.
