KU student studying in Paris still in a coma following accident
A Kansas University student who fell while studying in Paris remains in a medically induced coma for treatment purposes, KU officials said Thursday.
Shannon Tuley, a sophomore from Overland Park, was in Paris for a summer study-abroad program when she suffered the fall.
KU spokesman Todd Cohen said Paris police believed the fall was an accident and no foul play was suspected.
Cohen said the university has sent staff to Paris to offer counseling for other students currently participating in the program. KU also has provided a translator for Tuley’s mother, Laurie Tuley, to help her converse with French officials and to help her find housing. Laurie Tuley went to France to be with her daughter after the accident.
“It looks like she may have to be there a while,” Cohen said.
Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Kan., also is helping expedite a passport for Tuley’s father, who is still in the United States.
