Police cite speeding as top violation

Speeding was the primary violation found by Lawrence police and Douglas County sheriff’s officers during saturation patrols conducted Friday night and Saturday morning.

The two departments released statistics Tuesday that showed police cited 47 people for speeding, while sheriff’s officers cited another 12 speeders in rural areas.

Police also cited 28 drivers for moving violations, five people for not wearing seat belts and arrested one person for driving under the influence.

Sheriff’s officers issued three citations for no proof of insurance, one for not wearing a seat belt and one for failing to stop at a stop sign. They made one DUI arrest.
