Truck rollover involved cookies
Food safety inspectors will check hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout Cookies that were in an 18-wheeler that overturned near Perry.
Kansas troopers said the tractor-trailer was westbound on U.S. Highway 24 northwest of Lawrence on Tuesday morning when it went out of control on a curve and overturned. Troopers said 54-year-old James Tangard of Danville, Ky., was going too fast for conditions.
Kansas Agriculture Department spokeswoman Lisa Taylor said the trailer remained intact, and that the cookies were in their individual boxes packed inside larger cartons.
She said inspectors were planning Wednesday to inspect the cookies to be sure they’re safe to eat.
