Jackson named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week

Kansas University senior forward Darnell Jackson, whose career-high 25 points and nine rebounds paced the Jayhawks’ 85-60 win at Boston College Saturday, was named Monday as the Big 12 Conference’s Co-Player of the Week alongside Texas sophomore point guard D.J. Augustin.

Jackson is the first Jayhawk to be honored by the league in the 2007-08 season, while this is Augustin’s second time being named Player of the Week (Dec. 10). Jackson also scored 20 points in the Jayhawks’ 86-53 thrashing of Yale to close out the calendar year in Allen Fieldhouse on Dec. 29.

The Oklahoma City, Okla., native, by far the most pleasant surprise this year for coach Bill Self, is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game and is the squad’s leading rebounder, pulling down 6.7 boards per game. He has led the Jayhawks in scoring four times this season, including the last three games.

The No. 3 Jayhawks, 14-0 this season, close out non-conference play Tuesday night in Allen Fieldhouse against Loyola (Md.).
