Habitat ReStore approaches 500 tons

Habitat ReStore expects to sell the last of its first 500 tons of items sometime early next week, representing a diversion of more than 3,000 trailer loads of building materials from landfills.

The store, at 800 Comet Lane in Lawrence, accepts and salvages quality building supplies – from porcelain Italian tile to refrigerators – that in turn are sold to do-it-yourselfers and others. The store opened three years ago, and proceeds help finance Habitat for Humanity efforts in Lawrence.
